Nabarangpur: July 29 UDN}:A tree plantation programme was organised with great enthusiasm at Sukhugaon Government Upper Primary School under Umerkote Block in Nabarangpur district. Despite the light drizzle, the participants considered the rain a blessing from nature and actively joined hands in the plantation drive.
The 77th Van Mahotsav Week was celebrated at the school with great enthusiasm and grandeur. As part of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, a special tree plantation drive was conducted on the school premises. Various saplings were brought and planted around the school campus with the objective of promoting environmental conservation and creating greater awareness among students and the local community about the importance of trees and forests.
During the plantation programme, several varieties of plants were planted, including medicinal plants, fruit-bearing trees and other useful species. The programme witnessed the enthusiastic participation of students, teachers and members of the school community.
Block Education Officer Ishwar Chandra Majhi attended the event as the chief guest. School Headmaster Arun Behera, along with the teachers and students of the school, was also present and actively participated in the plantation activities. The participants planted saplings and took part in the programme with great enthusiasm, highlighting the importance of protecting nature and preserving the environment for future generations.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Ishwar Chandra Majhi said that trees are not only essential for maintaining ecological balance but are also indispensable for the survival and existence of human beings and all other living creatures. Trees provide us with oxygen, food, medicines, timber, shade and many other valuable resources. They also play a vital role in maintaining the natural environment, supporting biodiversity and helping to sustain life on Earth.
He further emphasised that everyone should understand their responsibility towards nature and contribute to environmental protection. He called upon every individual to plant at least one tree every year and take proper care of it so that it can grow into a healthy and strong tree.
The programme concluded with a renewed commitment from the teachers and students to protect the planted saplings and continue promoting greenery in and around the school. The initiative was appreciated as an important step towards spreading environmental awareness among children and encouraging the younger generation to actively participate in nature conservation and the creation of a greener and healthier future.
