Bhubaneswar, July 27 (UDN): Odisha witnessed widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours, with Banki in Cuttack district recording the highest rainfall of 192 mm, according to the latest data released by the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar.
Athagarh in Cuttack recorded 174 mm of rainfall, while Sonepur district headquarters received 135 mm and Kendrapada (Pto) recorded 133 mm. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported very heavy rainfall at four locations across the state.
Several other areas also experienced heavy showers, including Khairmal in Boudh with 108 mm, Jatni in Khurda with 97 mm, and Rajnagar in Kendrapada with 96 mm. Significant rainfall was also reported from parts of Cuttack, Puri, Bolangir, Sonepur, and Bargarh districts.
The heavy rainfall has been triggered by a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, which continues to influence weather conditions across coastal and interior Odisha.
With rising water levels in rivers and reservoirs, authorities have advised people in vulnerable and low-lying areas to remain alert. Residents have also been urged to follow weather updates and take precautions while travelling during the rainy conditions.
