Bhubaneswar, July 27 (UDN): The Hirakud Dam authorities have further regulated water discharge by closing six sluice gates and keeping only two gates open — one each on the left and right sides — following a decline in the reservoir water level.
According to the latest reservoir update, the water level at Hirakud Dam has dropped to 611.33 feet and is continuing on a declining trend. The live storage in the reservoir stands at 1.482 million acre feet, which is about 38 per cent of its total capacity.
The average inflow into the reservoir during the last 24 hours was recorded at 1,14,157 cusecs, while the average outflow remained higher at 1,69,325 cusecs. Water discharge continues through the spillway and power channel as part of reservoir management.
Power generation from the Burla and Chiplima Power Houses together recorded 209.042 MW during the day. The present reservoir level is 2.71 feet lower compared to the level recorded on the same date last year.
Officials are closely monitoring the reservoir situation and regulating water release based on inflow, storage levels, and downstream requirements.
