Sambalpur: July 24 UDN}: Sambalpur: Four more sluice gates of the Hirakud Dam have been opened to release the rising floodwater from the reservoir. With the latest opening, a total of 16 gates are now operational for the discharge of floodwater. The authorities are closely monitoring the inflow and outflow of water and keeping a constant watch on the reservoir situation. The release of water through the gates is being managed in accordance with the prevailing hydrological conditions and the safety requirements of the dam. Local authorities are also maintaining vigilance in the downstream areas and advising people living near the riverbanks to remain alert.
