Historic Achievement: Two Tribal Students Captivate International Audience with Shakespearean Performance in Santali

Malkangiri, June 19: {UDN}:   Two tribal students from Malkangiri district have brought pride to both the district and Odisha by performing a Shakespearean play in the Santali language during an overseas visit.

A group of 20 students from the KIIT and KISS institutions in Bhubaneswar traveled to Romania to participate in the 2026 World Shakespeare Festival. Among them were Ananta Angra from Aringi village in Khairput Block and Rashmita Tamarabi from Papermetla Panchayat in the Swabhiman region.

Through their performance, they successfully showcased India’s tribal language and cultural heritage on a global platform, creating a new identity and recognition for indigenous traditions. After returning to India, the team had the opportunity to meet the President of India.

The performance was organized to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the recognition of the Santali language. The students credited the success of this achievement to Dr. Achyuta Samanta, the founder of KIIT and KISS.

Upon their arrival in Mathili, the students and officials received a warm welcome from local college students and residents. Accompanied by traditional musical instruments, the students danced through the town in a celebratory procession.
