Jeypore, July 24 UDN}: A one-day training programme was organised at the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation in Jeypore, Koraput district, under the Integrated Horticulture Development Mission and National Horticulture Mission. Around 90 farmers from Dabugaon, Kosagumuda and Papadahandi blocks of Nabarangpur district participated in the programme.
Horticulture officials, including HHO Rabishankar Panda of Dabugaon, Sunil Kumar Sahu of Kundra and Sudipta Saurabh Sahu, explained various aspects of vegetable and fruit cultivation to the farmers. They also informed the participants about the different schemes and benefits available through the government’s Horticulture Department. Discussions were held on how fruit plantation can help farmers improve their livelihoods and income.
Later, M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation Director Prashant Kumar Parida explained how farmers can prepare and use various types of organic manure themselves to reduce dependence on chemical fertilisers, restore soil fertility and achieve better crop yields.
Subsequently, Pratap Chandra Jena and Krutibas Rout briefed the farmers on millet cultivation and integrated farming practices, including fish farming, vegetable cultivation, mushroom cultivation and mixed farming.
At the end of the programme, the participating farmers visited the Swaminathan campus and observed various farming methods and practices. The programme was coordinated by R.B. Panda of Dabugaon, with support from Laxmi Nayak of Papadahandi and Jalendra Amanatya of Kosagumuda.
