Humanity in Action: Meenaketan and Rajiv Donate SDP Platelets, Earn Praise for Their Selfless Contribution

Bhubaneswar,Aug 22 [UDN}: The Federation of Blood Donor Organisations of Odisha (FBDOO) facilitated the donation of one unit of AB-positive blood at AIIMS and one unit of AB-positive SDP (Single Donor Platelets) at SUM Hospital on Thursday. At a time when patients urgently needed platelets, young donors Meenaketan Sahu and Rajiv Kumar Swain stepped forward and set an inspiring example for others through their selfless donations.
According to reports, Hitesh, son of Ratikanta Nath, was undergoing treatment for blood cancer at AIIMS. Doctors informed the family that he urgently required SDP platelets. After the family failed to find a donor despite making several attempts, they contacted Dr Naresh Chandra Sahu, president of the Federation of Blood Donor Organisations of Odisha (FBDOO).
Dr Sahu immediately informed Rajiv Kumar Swain of Cuttack about the requirement. Responding promptly, Rajiv donated SDP for the second time on Thursday afternoon, providing crucial support to Hitesh at a critical stage of his treatment.
Similarly, Meenaketan Sahu, associated with the blood donor federation, donated his 14th AB-positive SDP at SUM Hospital for Ila Sengupta. His repeated contribution as a platelet donor was also widely appreciated.
Dr Girija Nandini Kanungo praised the noble initiative of the FBDOO and appreciated both SDP donors for their valuable contribution. She also presented certificates of appreciation to Meenaketan Sahu and Rajiv Kumar Swain in recognition of their humanitarian service.
The efforts of the two donors have once again highlighted the importance of voluntary platelet donation, particularly for patients suffering from serious illnesses such as blood cancer.
