Bhubaneswar, Aug. 6 (UDN): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across Odisha on Thursday, placing the entire state under weather alerts and cautioning people about heavy showers, thunderstorms and lightning in several districts.

According to the Meteorological Centre, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj have been placed under an Orange Alert, indicating the likelihood of heavy rainfall at isolated locations. The remaining 28 districts are under a Yellow Alert, with moderate to heavy rain expected in many areas.
The IMD has also issued a nowcast warning for the next three hours, predicting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and rain in parts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput and Kalahandi. Residents in these districts have been advised to stay alert and avoid open areas during thunderstorms.
The latest forecast comes amid active monsoon conditions over the state, with several regions already witnessing continuous rainfall and waterlogging in low-lying areas.
While wet weather is expected to continue on Friday, the intensity of rainfall is likely to decline compared to Thursday. The IMD has issued rain alerts for 20 districts for the day, with southern and western Odisha expected to receive comparatively less rainfall. No rainfall warning has been issued for the remaining 10 districts.
The weather department has urged people to keep track of official forecasts and follow safety advisories, especially in areas vulnerable to heavy rain and lightning.
