31st March 2025: In response to the devastating earthquake in Myanmar, India has launched a swift relief mission named “Operation Brahma.” On March 29, India sent 15 tonnes of essential aid to Yangon via a military aircraft, with additional supplies being dispatched by air and sea.
India became the first nation to send rescue personnel to Nay-Pyi-Taw, Myanmar’s capital. Two C130J aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) arrived, carrying 80 personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and additional relief materials. More supplies, including 60 para-field ambulances, are set to arrive shortly.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed India’s condolences and reaffirmed the nation’s support for Myanmar in this difficult time. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also confirmed that Indian naval ships, INS Satpura and INS Savitri, are carrying 40 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Myanmar. Additionally, a 118-member Indian Army Field Hospital is on its way to Mandalay to assist with medical care.
