Jayapur ,June 19: {UDN}: Social worker B. Hari Rao has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Sub-Collector of Jeypore, demanding the opening of a weekly office of the Koraput District Transport Officer (DTO) in Jayapur .
The memorandum states that a large number of residents, vehicle owners, and drivers from the Jayapur subdivision and nearby areas are currently compelled to travel to the District Transport Office in Koraput for various transport-related services. This results in a considerable waste of time, money, and effort.
As Jeypore is an important commercial and administrative center in southern Odisha, the number of vehicles in the region has increased rapidly. Local people face difficulties in accessing services such as:
Driving licence issuance and renewal
Vehicle registration
Permit-related work
Tax collection and payment
Other transport-related services
Considering public convenience, the memorandum strongly urges the government to open a weekly office of the Koraput District Transport Officer in Jeypore at least one day a week. It argues that such a facility would benefit thousands of people and make transport services more accessible and efficient.
The appeal requests the government and the concerned department to consider the demand positively and take prompt action.
The memorandum also notes that in the past, after repeated demands from Jeypore MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati and the Jeypore Private Bus Owners’ Association, a temporary RTO office had functioned in Jayapur e for some time. However, it was later closed. The demand now is to restart the facility and ensure that transport-related services are available once again in Jeypore.
