Jharsuguda : Mar, 30:Administrative efforts have intensified in Jharsuguda district to prevent child marriage and ensure the overall development of adolescent girls.
In this context, Ms. Sakuntala Das, State Assistant Coordinator (Child Marriage) of UNICEF, visited the district and reviewed various programs along with conducting field visits.
On March 16, an important review meeting was held at the District Social Welfare Office under the chairmanship of District Social Welfare Officer Mrs. Jayanti Gartia. During the meeting, discussions were held on a strong “five-year action plan” to prevent child marriage. The plan mainly focuses on social awareness, empowerment of adolescent girls, and strengthening coordination among different departments to bring change at the grassroots level.
Officials including Jagyaseni Mahanand, Sadar PO Mrs. Meenakshi Raj, PO Mrs. Krishnapriya Pradhan, District Hub Coordinator Lileshwar Sahu, and DCPO Sunanda Maharana, along with other staff members, participated in the meeting and shared their views.
On March 17, Ms. Das visited various “Advika Centres” in the district and reviewed the services being provided there. During the visit, she interacted with adolescents and discussed issues related to health, education, and lifestyle. She especially encouraged them to raise their voices against social evils like child marriage.
It is noteworthy that “Advika Centres” have become an important platform for empowering adolescent girls and creating awareness about their rights.
UNICEF appreciated the efforts of the district administration and expressed hope for broader cooperation to further expand this initiative in the coming days.
