Keonjhar, Feb 19: The Odisha state government’s recent move to recognize new tourist destinations in Keonjhar is expected to stimulate the district’s tribal economy. Keonjhar, with its scenic landscapes, forested hills, waterfalls, rivers, and religious sites, now boasts additional attractions such as Tenteinali, Giridibandh, Kaijoda waterfalls, Barhatipura Shiva Temple, and Dargadishila near the Baitarani River.

The recognition has increased the total number of designated tourist spots in the district to 23. Ramesh Chandra Nayak, Assistant Director of the Tourism Department in Keonjhar, expressed confidence that this initiative will draw more tourists, leading to gradual and need-based development in the region. Many of these newly recognized sites are located in tribal and forested areas, potentially bringing economic benefits to local communities.

Experts believe that by developing these sites alongside industries such as mining, Keonjhar can achieve both economic and social progress through sustainable tourism. The state’s official acknowledgment of 20 new tourist spots, including seven in Keonjhar, is a positive step toward enhancing the region’s tourism potential.
