New Delhi, May 19: In a major boost to grassroots sports, Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has announced the expansion of the Khelo India initiative to include school sports, martial arts, beach games, and water sports starting this year.
Unveiling the Khelo India Annual Calendar, Mandaviya stated that the government will soon roll out various competitions, including the Khelo India North-East Games, to ensure year-round sporting engagement across the country.
Calling the calendar a “strategic blueprint,” the Minister emphasized its role in strengthening India’s domestic competition structure and transforming the country into a global sporting powerhouse. He noted that the upcoming events will play a critical role in talent identification and nurturing young athletes for international competitions, including the Commonwealth Games 2030 and the Olympic Games 2036.
“With structured competitions, inclusive participation, and a strong foundation at the grassroots, we are driving India’s sporting revolution—and our youth are leading the way,” Mandaviya said.
The move marks a significant step in India’s vision to develop a robust and inclusive sports ecosystem nationwide.
