Koraput, Sept. 24 (UDN): A schoolteacher went missing on Thursday after reportedly being swept away by a strong current while fishing in the Kolab River in Odisha’s Koraput district.
The missing teacher has been identified as Bhimadhar Nayak, a resident of Bangalaguda who is posted at Machliput School.
Swept Away While Fishing
According to reports, Nayak had gone to the Kolab River with a friend in the morning to catch fish. The two were reportedly near the riverbank along Intake Road on the Koraput-Damanjodi Road when Nayak was suddenly caught in the strong current and swept away.
His friend managed to swim back to the riverbank, but Nayak could not be traced.
The incident was reported to the authorities, following which a Fire Services team reached the spot and launched a search operation.
Strong Current Hampers Search
Rescue personnel are searching different stretches of the river to locate the missing teacher. However, the strong water current and prevailing adverse weather conditions are making the operation difficult.
The search operation was continuing till the latest reports came in.
The incident has caused concern among Nayak’s family, colleagues and local residents as rescue personnel continue efforts to trace him.
