Low-Pressure Area Intensifies Over the Bay of Bengal: Odisha on Alert for Heavy Rain

Bhubaneswar, April 9: A low-pressure area created over the Bay of Bengal has intensified and is now a clearly identified low-pressure system in the southwestern region of the central Bay of Bengal. This system is expected to maintain its intensity for the next 12 hours, with a likely movement towards the northwest. However, it could shift direction and gradually weaken as it moves towards the central Bay of Bengal.

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, heavy rainfall with thunderstorms is expected in several districts of Odisha due to the system’s influence. A yellow warning has been issued for 19 districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Kendujhar, Deogarh, Rayagada, Sundargarh, Koraput, Anugul, and Dhenkanal, indicating the possibility of moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.

The weather department has also predicted that the region will experience more rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning until April 15. The public has been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions as the weather system continues to develop.
