Karanjia Aug 27 [UDN}: Mohammad Zafar Alam, Principal of Karanjia Adarsha Residential School at Biunria under Tato Gram Panchayat of Karanjia block, has been selected for the National Teachers’ Award 2026.
The prestigious award has been announced by the Department of School Education and Literacy under the Union Ministry of Education, Government of India. He is scheduled to receive the honour at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi in September 2026.
Mohammad Alam had earlier served as a Trained Graduate Teacher (Geography) at a Kendriya Vidyalaya in New Delhi. During his tenure there, he played an important role in providing quality education to students and encouraging their overall development. In recognition of his contributions in academic as well as sports-related activities, he had also received a Regional Incentive Award from the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan.
After joining Karanjia Eklavya Model Residential School as its Principal in June 2024, Alam introduced the ‘Ghar Jaisa School’ initiative with the objective of ensuring quality education for students belonging to Scheduled Tribe communities and nurturing their hidden talents. Along with regular academic education, special emphasis was placed on sports, cultural activities, yoga and technology-based learning.
These initiatives have helped several students develop their abilities and pursue higher education in prestigious institutions and fields, including IITs, MBA programmes, medical colleges, ISRO-related institutions and defence colleges.
Among the 71 Eklavya Model Residential Schools in Odisha, the selection of the Principal of Karanjia school for the prestigious National Teachers’ Award has brought recognition to the institution and the Mayurbhanj EMRS community.
Following the announcement, Mayurbhanj District Collector Hemant Sai, who is also the Chairman of the Mayurbhanj EMRS group, and Karanjia ITDA Project Administrator Chittaranjan Mohant, who serves as its Vice-Chairman, congratulated and praised Mohammad Alam for his achievement.
