Bhubaneswar, Aug 4 [UDN}: The flood situation in the Mahanadi River has improved significantly, with no immediate flood threat prevailing at present. The water level at the Hirakud Reservoir has started showing a declining trend, bringing relief to people living in the downstream areas.
According to officials, the inflow of water into the reservoir has reduced following a decrease in rainfall intensity in the catchment areas. As a result, the pressure on the dam has eased, and the reservoir’s water level is gradually coming down.
The administration is closely monitoring the situation and keeping a constant watch on the river’s water flow and the condition of low-lying areas. Earlier, the release of excess water through multiple gates of the Hirakud Dam had raised concerns about possible flooding in the Mahanadi river basin.
With the improvement in the situation, authorities have expressed relief but advised people living near the riverbanks to remain cautious until normal conditions are fully restored. Continuous monitoring and necessary precautionary measures are being maintained to deal with any unexpected rise in water levels.
