Bhubaneswar, August 15, 2026: In a major decision aimed at expanding opportunities for young aspirants, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced the removal of the existing six-attempt limit for the Odisha Civil Services (OCS) examination.
Under the revised provision, candidates will no longer be restricted to a fixed number of attempts. They will be allowed to appear for the OCS examination until they reach the prescribed maximum age limit, subject to meeting other eligibility requirements.
The decision, announced on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day, is expected to bring relief to thousands of civil service aspirants who were unable to continue their preparation after exhausting their permitted attempts.
The move is likely to give candidates greater flexibility to prepare for the competitive examination without the pressure of a limited number of attempts. It also reflects the state government’s focus on creating wider opportunities for Odisha’s youth to pursue careers in public administration.
For many aspirants, the removal of the attempt ceiling could make the OCS examination more accessible and provide additional chances to realise their goal of joining the state civil services.
