Malkangiri,May 4 (BNP): In a remarkable story of courage and determination, Laxmi Khemudu, a Class X student of PM SHRI Government High School in Sindhrimal under Malkangiri district, has successfully cleared the matriculation examination by writing with her feet.
Born with a locomotor disability that left both her hands non-functional, Laxmi refused to see her condition as a barrier. Through relentless practice and unwavering determination, she trained herself to hold a pen between her toes and write. She appeared for the examination without the assistance of a scribe—despite being eligible for one—and passed with a D grade.
Her achievement has been widely praised by the education community. District Education Officer Chittaranjan Panigrahi described her success as a matter of pride for her family, school, and the entire district. He noted that Laxmi’s journey stands as a powerful testament to the fact that physical limitations cannot hinder talent, education, and determination.
Despite her condition, which also makes it difficult for her to walk or sit without support, Laxmi persevered through significant challenges. A resident of Bandhiguda village under Sindhrimal panchayat, she comes from a modest background—her father is a daily wage labourer, and her mother is a homemaker. She remains dependent on her parents for daily activities.
Her journey to the examination hall was marked by hardship, yet her resilience and spirit helped her overcome every obstacle. Laxmi’s success has sparked widespread joy across the region, with teachers, students, and locals celebrating her inspiring accomplishment.
Her story stands as a beacon of hope and motivation, proving that with determination and courage, even the most difficult challenges can be overcome.
