Bhubaneswar, July 29 UDN}: Under the ‘Gomata Suraksha Abhiyan’, stray cows and calves in the Sriram Nagar area of Berhampur are being fitted with reflective radium belts. Veterinary doctors are extending the campaign to various parts of the district to ensure the safety of stray cattle and reduce the risk of road accidents.
The campaign has been initiated by the Department of Fisheries and Animal Resources Development with the objective of reducing road accidents across the state and protecting cattle. The reflective belts will help vehicle drivers spot cows and calves from a distance during the night, particularly in low-visibility conditions, allowing them to slow down or take necessary precautions and thereby avoid possible collisions.
The initiative is expected to improve road safety while also safeguarding livestock that frequently move or remain on roads after dark. The ‘Gomata Suraksha Abhiyan’ will continue until August 31, with the campaign being expanded to more locations across the district.
