New Office Bearers Selected During Koya Community Conference in Kalimela Block

Malkangiri, April 15:  A grand conference of the Koya community was held at Pulimetla village under Kalimela block in Malkangiri district. The event turned festive with traditional attire, music, and dance, while new leadership was selected for the development of the community.
The program showcased a vibrant glimpse of Koya culture. Men and women of the community participated enthusiastically, wearing traditional dresses and performing dances to the rhythm of traditional instruments.
Several dignitaries attended the event, including former MLA Manas Madkami, Mukunda Sodi, former Zilla Parishad President Dasharath Padiami, and Special Development Council representative Gangadhar Sodi. Also present were Adivasi Sangh President Bandhu Muduli and others like Adma Rao, Malla Madi, and Ghanashyam Madkami. The gathering witnessed a participation of over 4,000 people.
During the conference, Bhima Barse was elected as President of the Koya community, and Adma Rao as Secretary. A total of 30 members were selected for various positions, including 6 women who were given important responsibilities.
All newly elected office bearers took an oath to strengthen and lead the community forward. It is hoped that this unity and cultural pride of the Koya community will help create a distinct identity for the district in the coming days.
