Bhubaneswar, June 11 – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather warning for Odisha, predicting heavy rainfall across several parts of the state over the next three days. This comes as a result of a developing cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal, combined with the advancing monsoon winds.

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, districts such as Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, and Bhadrak are likely to experience intense downpours in the next 24 hours. An Orange Alert has been issued for these areas. Additionally, a Yellow Alert has been sounded for 25 districts, forecasting light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by lightning and thunder.

The weather system is expected to bring strong winds, reaching speeds of 40–60 km/h in some regions, particularly along the coast and in southern Odisha. These conditions may lead to short-term disruptions, especially in low-lying areas and agricultural zones.

Fishermen have been strongly advised not to venture into the sea, as wind speeds over the northern Bay of Bengal may reach up to 65 km/h. Farmers are also being urged to take precautions to safeguard their crops, especially in view of the potential for waterlogging or storm-related damage.

While the rain will offer a much-needed respite from the recent heat and dry spell, officials warn of possible flooding in low-lying areas. The state and district administrations have been asked to stay on alert and ensure necessary measures are in place to deal with any emergencies.

Residents are advised to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid taking shelter under trees or in open fields, and stay updated with local weather bulletins.
