Bhubaneswar, Sept. 18 (UDN): Odisha-cadre IPS officer Amitendra Nath Sinha, currently serving as Inspector General in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), has been appointed as Inspector General of the Border Security Force (BSF) on a lateral shift basis.
The order, issued by the Centre on September 16, allows Sinha to continue in the new assignment until July 10, 2028. His posting will be treated as a continuation of his existing central deputation tenure, which began on July 11, 2023.
Move from CRPF to BSF
A 2002-batch IPS officer of the Odisha cadre, Sinha is being shifted from the CRPF to the BSF at Pay Level 14. The BSF functions under the Ministry of Home Affairs and is responsible for guarding India’s international borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh.
The lateral shift means Sinha’s existing central deputation period will continue without starting a fresh deputation tenure.
Sinha’s policing career
Sinha joined the Indian Police Service in September 2002 and has served in several important assignments during his career. Before moving to central deputation, he served as Inspector General, CID-Crime Branch, in the Odisha Police.
In 2023, the Ministry of Home Affairs approved his deputation to the CRPF as Inspector General. He subsequently served in the CRPF Odisha Sector, where his responsibilities included overseeing operational formations and coordinating with the state police.
His experience in internal security and counter-insurgency operations will now be followed by an assignment in the BSF, with its focus on border management and security.
Tenure to continue till 2028
Sinha’s combined central deputation tenure, which commenced on July 11, 2023, is scheduled to run until July 2028, subject to further orders.
He will assume his BSF responsibilities after being formally relieved from the CRPF. The date of his joining the new assignment is expected to be communicated to the concerned authorities.
