Bhubaneswar, Jan 4: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced that the unseasonal rains in December will be treated as a natural calamity. This declaration will allow the state to provide compensation to farmers affected by crop damage through the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF).

During the ‘Krushi Odisha Conclave 2025,’ Majhi shared that farmers who lost 33% or more of their crops will receive financial aid, with ₹291 crore allocated for this purpose. According to reports, over 6.6 lakh farmers have been impacted, with nearly 2.27 lakh hectares of land affected.

The state will also support vegetable growers and those cultivating cash crops like betel leaf and cotton. Additionally, Odisha has launched the CM Kisan Yojana, providing over ₹925 crore to nearly 46 lakh farmers. The government is also focused on improving irrigation, cold storage, and other agricultural infrastructure to help farmers become more self-reliant.
