According to official reports, the river’s water level reached 11.79 metres, significantly above the danger mark of 10.36 metres, raising concerns for villages located along its banks.

Floodwaters disrupt road connectivity

Rising water levels submerged stretches of State Highway-57, affecting vehicular movement in the district. Nearly two feet of water accumulated on the main road connecting Jaleswar and Chandaneswar, making travel difficult for commuters.

Several villages, including Kusuda, Gabagaon and Manunagar, were cut off from the outside world as floodwaters surrounded access roads.

Baliapal and Bhograi among the worst affected

The flooding has severely impacted Baliapal, Bhograi and Jaleswar blocks, with water entering several low-lying settlements.

A total of 48 gram panchayats have been affected so far, including:

28 panchayats in Bhograi
20 panchayats in Baliapal

Residents in the affected areas fear the situation could worsen if the river continues to rise.

Authorities on alert

Officials are closely monitoring the water level of the Subarnarekha as concerns grow over further inundation in vulnerable areas. With several roads already submerged and villages isolated, authorities remain on alert to assess the evolving flood situation and respond to any additional emergencies.
