Bhubaneswar, Aug 4 [UDN}: The Odisha State Cabinet has approved a major development package worth ₹7,436.22 crore, focusing on strengthening key sectors such as tribal welfare, agricultural development, farmers’ support and urban infrastructure growth. The package reflects the government’s commitment to inclusive development by prioritising the needs of vulnerable communities, improving livelihood opportunities for farmers, and accelerating the expansion of urban facilities across the state.
The Cabinet’s approval is expected to pave the way for the implementation of several important schemes and projects aimed at improving the socio-economic condition of tribal communities, enhancing agricultural productivity, providing better support systems for farmers, and creating modern infrastructure in urban areas.
A significant portion of the approved package will be directed towards the welfare and empowerment of tribal communities, with emphasis on improving access to basic amenities, education, healthcare, livelihood opportunities and overall development in tribal-dominated regions. The government has highlighted the importance of ensuring that development reaches remote and backward areas while preserving the cultural identity and traditions of indigenous communities.
The agriculture sector has also received special attention under the package. Various initiatives will focus on strengthening farmers’ income, improving irrigation facilities, promoting modern farming practices, ensuring better market access and providing necessary support to enhance agricultural sustainability. The move is aimed at making farming more profitable and resilient for cultivators across Odisha.
Along with rural development, the Cabinet has also prioritised urban development by approving measures to improve civic infrastructure, public services and planned urban expansion. The initiatives are expected to support the growing needs of cities and towns by enhancing facilities related to housing, roads, sanitation, water supply and other essential services.
The approval of the ₹7,436.22 crore package marks a significant step towards achieving balanced and inclusive growth in Odisha. The government has reiterated that its development strategy will focus on empowering tribal communities, strengthening the backbone of the state’s economy — the farming sector — and transforming urban areas into better-equipped and sustainable centres of growth.
