Bhubaneswar, 1st April: The Odisha government has introduced new measures to tackle traffic violations, including the suspension of driving licenses for individuals who fail to settle e-challans within three months. Additionally, those who repeatedly violate traffic rules, such as running red lights or engaging in dangerous driving, could face license suspension for up to three months.

In an effort to further enforce traffic rules, the government is considering linking higher insurance premiums to the number of violations a person accumulates. This initiative is expected to encourage better compliance with traffic laws and improve road safety.

According to official data, Odisha has a fine collection rate of 29%, with Delhi having the lowest at 14%. The government plans to send e-challan notices within three days of a violation, giving offenders 30 days to either pay the fine or dispute it. Failure to resolve the fine within three months will result in the cancellation of the individual’s driving license (DL) or vehicle registration certificate (RC). Additionally, if complaints are not addressed within 30 days, the issued challans will be voided.

These measures are part of the government’s efforts to improve traffic discipline and reduce accidents across the state.
