Odisha Governor Highlights Spiritual Unity and Heritage at Mahendragiri Mela and Jiranga Monastery Visit

Bhubaneswar, June 9 (UDN): Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati on Monday undertook a spiritually significant visit to Gajapati district, attending the Mahendragiri Mela and later visiting the revered Buddhist monastery at Jiranga, reaffirming Odisha’s rich cultural and spiritual legacy.

At the historic Mahendragiri hill, the Governor participated in the ongoing fair and offered prayers at the ancient Kunti Temple, which sits atop the sacred peak. He also took part in a traditional yajna conducted as part of the annual festivities. Describing Mahendragiri as a timeless symbol of Odisha’s spiritual identity, he noted its enduring role in nurturing devotion, dharma, and social harmony across generations.

The Governor later visited the Buddhist monastery at Jiranga, where he offered prayers to Lord Buddha, seeking peace, prosperity, and well-being for all. The visit drew a warm reception from monks, spiritual leaders, students, and local residents, who welcomed him with traditional hospitality.

During his interaction with the monastic community, the Governor engaged with monks and villagers, listening to their views and concerns. He appreciated their commitment to preserving Buddhist teachings and promoting values of compassion, mindfulness, and unity in society.

Recalling his earlier involvement in facilitating the arrival of sacred relics of Lord Buddha from Vietnam to India, he said the visit held deep personal and spiritual significance. He also praised the monastery’s ongoing efforts to preserve and spread the teachings of Buddhism for future generations.

State ministers Suresh Pujari and Bibhuti Bhusan Jena accompanied the Governor during the visit.

Officials noted that the visit reflects Odisha’s continued commitment to celebrating its diverse spiritual traditions while strengthening cultural engagement and community harmony across regions.

The Governor’s visit underscored a broader message of unity through spirituality, highlighting how ancient traditions continue to inspire values of peace, coexistence, and collective well-being in contemporary society.
