31st January 2025: The Odisha government has inaugurated its first Automated Testing Station (ATS) in Cuttack, marking a significant leap towards improving vehicle fitness assessments and ensuring safer roads. The facility, located under the Cuttack Regional Transport Office (RTO), employs advanced technology to perform vehicle tests without human intervention, providing more accurate and unbiased results.

Compliant with Central Motor Vehicle Rules, the ATS is designed to assess a wide range of vehicles, including two-wheelers, three-wheelers, light, medium, and heavy vehicles, both commercial and private. This technology aims to remove unfit vehicles from the roads, enhancing road safety across the state.

Transport Commissioner Amitabh Thakur highlighted the importance of the new system, noting that it meets the high standards set by the Central government. He expressed confidence that the ATS will significantly improve the safety of Odisha’s transportation system.

Looking ahead, the Odisha government plans to expand the initiative by establishing 21 additional ATS centers across various districts, including Boudh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, and Sambalpur, among others, further enhancing the state’s road safety and vehicle fitness monitoring.
