Bhubaneswar, Aug 4 (UDN): The Odisha government has issued directions for the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ to be sung before the national anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana’ at government programmes and educational institutions across the state.
The directive, issued by the School and Mass Education Department, follows guidelines from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and aims to ensure uniform observance of national symbols during official events and school activities.
District Education Officers, Block Education Officers and heads of government and government-aided schools have been instructed to implement the order and ensure that both ‘Vande Mataram’ and ‘Jana Gana Mana’ are rendered with the original lyrics, correct pronunciation and prescribed tune.
The state Home Department has also shared the instructions with senior district officials, including Revenue Divisional Commissioners, Collectors and Superintendents of Police, for wider implementation.
Schools have been advised to promote collective singing during morning assemblies and encourage students to develop respect and awareness towards the national song, national anthem and the national flag.
The guidelines also require all persons present to stand in attention when the national anthem is sung or played, except when it is part of a film or documentary. Institutions have been cautioned against any improper or unauthorised use of the anthem.
Officials said the move is aimed at strengthening awareness and respect for national symbols among students and the wider public while ensuring consistent practices across government institutions and schools.
