Bhubaneswar, July 20 (UDN): The Odisha Government has directed district administrations to promote the use of complex fertilisers and ammonium sulphate as alternatives to Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) and urea, aiming to encourage balanced nutrient management and ensure adequate fertiliser availability for farmers.
The initiative follows efforts to reduce dependence on conventional fertilisers while improving soil health through balanced nutrient application. Ammonium sulphate, which contains both nitrogen and sulphur, is expected to serve as an effective substitute for urea while helping address sulphur deficiency in agricultural soils.
The state government has instructed district authorities and cooperative agencies to ensure timely procurement and distribution of complex fertilisers and ammonium sulphate in line with district-wise requirements.
The move comes amid efforts to manage fertiliser supplies efficiently and support farmers during the ongoing agricultural season. Officials believe the increased use of alternative fertilisers will help maintain crop productivity while promoting sustainable farming practices.
The initiative reflects Odisha’s focus on strengthening agricultural resilience through improved nutrient management and efficient fertiliser distribution.
