Odisha Puts Fire Services on Statewide Rain Alert

Bhubaneswar, July 3 (UDN): The Odisha Fire and Emergency Services has placed the entire state on high alert following the forecast of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall linked to an active low-pressure system.

Inspector General of Police (Home Guards and Fire Services) Umashankar Dash reviewed preparedness measures under the guidance of Director General Dr Sudhanshu Sarangi. Officials said all fire stations have been put on 24-hour alert, with specialised rescue teams deployed in the Cuttack, Berhampur, and Sambalpur ranges.

As part of the preparedness plan, 324 motorised inflatable rubber boats have been deployed across the state, supported by 3,143 life jackets and other rescue equipment. Resources have been distributed across central, southern, and northern regions to ensure quick response during emergencies.

To address flooding and waterlogging situations, 952 water pumps have been kept ready for drainage operations in affected areas. The department has also arranged tower lights, search lights, and underwater and surface breathing sets to support night-time rescue operations.

Citizens have been advised to avoid waterlogged areas and contact emergency helpline 112 immediately in case of distress. The Fire Services Department is working in close coordination with district administrations to ensure swift response and assistance.
