Bhubaneswar, Sept. 11 (UDN): Odisha is set for another spell of widespread rain as a low-pressure area over the north Bay of Bengal continues to influence the state’s weather conditions.
The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange warning for three districts and a yellow warning for 21 districts, with heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds likely in several parts of the state.
Orange Alert for Three Districts
For Friday, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur and Koraput have been placed under an orange warning, indicating the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in some areas.
In view of the weather conditions, educational institutions in Kalahandi have been ordered to remain closed on Friday.
Heavy Rain Likely in Southern Odisha
Several other districts are also expected to receive heavy rainfall. These include Malkangiri, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Bolangir and Nuapada.
According to Regional Meteorological Centre Director Manorama Mohanty, moderate rain is likely across much of the state, while some areas could witness intense showers accompanied by lightning, thunder and strong winds.
Winds of around 40–50 kmph are likely over Kalahandi, Nabarangpur and Koraput, while other southern districts may also experience thunderstorms and gusty conditions.
Parts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Subarnapur and Boudh may receive light to moderate rain along with lightning, thunder and winds reaching 30–40 kmph.
Sea to Remain Rough
The weather system is also expected to keep the sea conditions rough for the next 48 hours.
The Meteorological Centre has advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea during this period as a precautionary measure.
Rain May Ease, But Southern Odisha Remains Vulnerable
While rainfall activity across the state may gradually decline, southern Odisha is expected to remain vulnerable to heavy showers under the influence of the low-pressure system.
Authorities and residents in the affected districts have been advised to remain alert, particularly in areas prone to waterlogging, lightning and strong winds.
