Bhubaneswar, Oct. 12 (UDN): Election fever has gripped colleges and universities across Odisha as candidates intensify their campaigns ahead of student union polls scheduled for October 15. Posters and banners have appeared across campuses, while candidates and their supporters are reaching out to students in a final push to secure votes.
Major institutions, including Ravenshaw University, Utkal University, Rama Devi Women’s University and Fakir Mohan University, have witnessed heightened campaign activity as candidates seek to convince voters of their priorities and plans.
Campaigns Enter Final Phase
With polling day approaching, candidates are using campus outreach, posters and social media to publicise their agendas and connect with student voters.
The ‘Why I Stand For’ meeting, scheduled for October 14, will provide candidates with another opportunity to present their views and explain why they should be elected. The event comes just a day before students cast their ballots.
The final stretch of campaigning is expected to be crucial as candidates seek to consolidate support and reach undecided voters.
Campus Clashes Raise Security Concerns
Despite the enthusiasm surrounding the elections, reports of group clashes and tension at some institutions have raised concerns about maintaining order during the campaign.
Recent incidents on college campuses have placed the focus on security arrangements, with college administrations and police facing the challenge of preventing further confrontations and ensuring that polling takes place peacefully.
Authorities will need to remain vigilant so that students can participate in the electoral process without fear or disruption.
Results and Oath Ceremony on October 16
The student union elections will be held on October 15, with the results scheduled to follow. Newly elected student representatives are expected to take the oath of office on October 16.
As the countdown to polling continues, the focus remains on whether the remaining campaign period and election day will pass peacefully, allowing students to elect their representatives through a fair and orderly process.
