Odisha Weather Alert: Thunderstorms and Rain Likely in Five Districts, IMD Advises Caution

Bhubaneswar: Residents in five western Odisha districts have been advised to stay alert as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms and lightning activity in the coming hours.

According to the IMD’s latest nowcast warning, Balangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Sundargarh are likely to witness rain and thunderstorm activity at isolated places.

The weather alert aims to help people prepare for sudden changes in weather conditions and take necessary precautions. The IMD has advised residents to avoid open areas during thunderstorms, stay away from trees and electric poles, and move indoors when lightning activity occurs.

The warning is particularly important for people engaged in outdoor activities, farmers, and travellers, as sudden thunderstorms can create safety risks.

Weather officials are closely monitoring the situation and have urged citizens to follow official updates for further forecasts and advisories.

With changing weather patterns bringing frequent short-duration storms, timely alerts and public awareness remain important to ensure safety and minimise disruption across the affected districts.
