Bhubaneswar, July 24 UDN}: The low-pressure area formed over north Odisha and adjoining Jharkhand and West Bengal is moving towards the northwest.
The system is likely to weaken within the next 24 hours. However, under its influence, heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur at a few places across Odisha during the next 24 hours. An Orange Warning has been issued for parts of Bargarh, Subarnapur, Boudh and Balangir districts, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected until 8:30 AM on Saturday.
A Yellow Warning has also been issued for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Nabarangpur districts, where heavy rainfall is likely during the same period.
Over the subsequent 24 hours, heavy rainfall is forecast in Sundargarh, Bargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada and Balangir districts, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre.
Rainfall is expected to decrease across the state over the following two days, although isolated areas of north interior Odisha may continue to receive heavy rain.
In the past 24 hours, Hatadihi in Keonjhar district recorded 21 cm of rainfall, while Atabira in Bargarh received 16 cm, Burla in Sambalpur 15 cm, and Padampur in Bargarh, Hirakud and Sambalpur town recorded 14 cm each.
Meanwhile, Odisha is expected to receive above-normal rainfall in July. The state recorded 110.3 mm of rainfall between June 1 and June 30, while the normal rainfall for the entire 31-day month of July is 341.4 mm. However, 336.6 mm of rainfall has already been recorded in the first 17 days of July. With 14 days still remaining in the month, the India Meteorological Department has indicated that the rainfall total is likely to rise further.
