Bhubaneswar, July 20 (UDN): In a major success against mobile phone theft, the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police has recovered 375 stolen mobile phones and reunited them with their rightful owners following a series of targeted operations.
The police arrested Mohammad Saif Ali from Malda district of West Bengal in connection with the theft cases and are investigating his suspected links with an interstate mobile phone theft network.
Commissioner of Police Dr. Suresh Dev Datta Singh said the recovered devices were verified before being handed over to the original owners. Around 150 people received their mobile phones on Monday, while the remaining owners will be informed to collect their devices after necessary verification.
The stolen phones were recovered through coordinated raids conducted by multiple police stations under the Commissionerate Police. Investigations revealed that several devices were reportedly stolen from crowded areas, including the recently concluded Puri Rath Yatra, where thousands of devotees had gathered.
Police suspect the arrested individual’s involvement in a wider organised theft network and are continuing efforts to trace other members linked to the racket.
Urging public caution, Commissionerate Police advised citizens to remain vigilant in crowded places such as festivals, religious gatherings, markets, and public transport areas, where mobile theft incidents are more likely to occur.
The successful recovery operation reflects the police department’s commitment to tackling organised crime and ensuring the return of stolen belongings to citizens.
