Puri–Koraput Train Extension to Jeypore Sought to Strengthen Rail Connectivity and Benefit Passengers in the Region

Jeypore: Sept 17 [UDN}:The Jeypore Jagaran Parishad has submitted a memorandum to the General Manager of East Coast Railway (ECoR), urging the railway authorities to extend the Puri–Koraput train service up to Jeypore and revise its existing timetable in the interest of passengers from southern Odisha.

Members of the organisation pointed out that the train currently reaches Koraput at around 11:30 pm, creating considerable difficulties for passengers who need to travel onward to Jeypore, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri and other surrounding areas. The late-night arrival leaves many passengers with limited or no convenient public transport options to reach their respective destinations.

The organisation said that the railway service is used by a large number of passengers from different parts of southern Odisha, including students, employees, patients and people travelling for personal and official purposes. However, the present timing has become a major inconvenience, particularly for those whose journey does not end at Koraput.

According to the Parishad, extending the train up to Jeypore would provide substantial relief to passengers from Jeypore and neighbouring districts. It would also improve direct rail connectivity between the region and Puri, an important religious and tourist destination.

The Jeypore Jagaran Parishad has therefore urged the ECoR authorities to seriously consider extending the Puri–Koraput train to Jeypore and making suitable changes to its timetable so that passengers can reach their destinations safely and conveniently.

The organisation expressed hope that the railway authorities would examine the demand on priority and take appropriate steps in view of the growing transportation needs of passengers in the Koraput-Jeypore region and adjoining districts.

The memorandum has renewed the demand for better railway connectivity in southern Odisha, where improved train services and passenger-friendly schedules are considered important for strengthening mobility, tourism, education, healthcare access and regional economic activity.
