Bhubaneswar, Sept. 15 (UDN): Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi is likely to visit Odisha next month to participate in a major youth-focused programme in Bhubaneswar, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Bhakta Charan Das said on Tuesday.
According to Das, the Odisha Congress has submitted a proposal seeking Rahul Gandhi’s participation in the proposed ‘Chhatra Ki Gunj’ programme, which is expected to bring together nearly 20,000 young people in the state capital.
The event is expected to focus on issues affecting the younger generation, particularly concerns and aspirations associated with Gen-Z.
“We have sent a proposal in this regard. Rahul Gandhi is very likely to attend the ‘Chhatra Ki Gunj’ programme in Bhubaneswar, where around 20,000 youths are expected to participate,” Das said.
Congress Steps Up Preparations Ahead of Panchayat Polls
The proposed visit comes as the Odisha Congress prepares to intensify its organisational and political activities ahead of the upcoming Panchayat elections.
Das said the party would undertake a series of large-scale programmes across the state as part of its campaign and outreach strategy.
The Congress is scheduled to launch a padayatra from Nabarangapur on October 2. Party workers are expected to participate in the march, while committees will be constituted to oversee and monitor the programmes.
The state Congress leadership is also planning a major youth-oriented gathering in Bhubaneswar in October, where issues concerning employment, education and the aspirations of young people are expected to receive particular attention.
More Senior Congress Leaders Expected in Odisha
The party is also looking at a broader campaign programme in Odisha over the coming months.
Das said Rahul Gandhi, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and the Karnataka Chief Minister are expected to visit Odisha between January and February as part of the party’s wider political campaign.
The proposed visits are expected to give a further boost to the Congress’s efforts to strengthen its organisational presence in the state and connect with different sections of voters ahead of the Panchayat elections.
For now, however, Rahul Gandhi’s proposed October visit and the ‘Chhatra Ki Gunj’ programme are likely to remain a key focus of the Odisha Congress’s upcoming youth outreach initiatives.
