Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has directed officials to closely monitor railway tracks, embankments and areas prone to waterlogging. The instructions come amid concerns that sustained rainfall could affect railway infrastructure and train movement in some parts of the state.

Officials have been asked to maintain heightened surveillance of the Rupsa-Baripada-Bangriposi and Rourkela-Bondamunda sections, with additional manpower and resources being deployed where necessary.

Focus on vulnerable railway stretches

Railway teams are monitoring water levels, track conditions and embankments at sensitive locations. The aim is to identify potential risks early and take preventive action before they develop into disruptions.

Field officials have also been asked to remain prepared for sudden changes in weather conditions and keep emergency resources ready for immediate deployment.

Passenger safety remains the priority

The railway authorities’ approach is centred on passenger safety. Teams are being kept on alert so that any weather-related issue can be addressed quickly and train operations can be managed according to ground conditions.

The enhanced monitoring is particularly important during periods of heavy rain, when waterlogging and changes in soil conditions can affect railway infrastructure.

Preparedness to minimise disruption

Rather than waiting for weather-related problems to occur, railway officials are taking precautionary steps to identify vulnerable locations and strengthen their readiness.

Regular inspections and close coordination among field teams are expected to help the Railways respond more effectively if rainfall intensifies.

For passengers, the measures provide reassurance that railway teams are keeping a close watch on conditions and prioritising safe travel during the ongoing spell of heavy rain.

With weather conditions remaining closely monitored, the Railways’ focus is clear: act early, stay prepared and put passenger safety first while working to maintain reliable train services across Odisha.
