Rain and Thunderstorms Expected Across Odisha Till May 23 Due to Nor’wester

20th May 2025: The Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has forecast rain and thunderstorms across various parts of Odisha over the next five days, due to the influence of the Nor’wester (Kalbaishakhi) weather system. The rainy spell is expected to continue until May 23.

On Tuesday, a Yellow Warning has been issued for 15 districts including Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Balangir, and Nuapada. These regions are likely to witness heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunder.

Similarly, on May 21, nine districts — Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Gajapati, and Ganjam — may experience intense thunderstorms with rain.

On May 22, the rainfall activity is expected to extend to 16 districts. Further, on May 23 and 24, many parts of both northern and southern Odisha are likely to be affected by rainfall and stormy conditions.

Citizens are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions during this period, especially in the districts under weather warnings.
