Bhubaneswar, July 17 (UDN): The Sapua River in Odisha has recorded its most significant flash flood in nearly 50 years following intense rainfall across parts of the state, triggering concerns in several affected areas.
The Water Resources Department has clarified that Odisha is not facing a statewide flood situation at present, although continuous rainfall has led to rising water levels in some rivers and localised flooding.
According to officials, the flash flood in the Sapua River surpassed previous records, while water levels have now started showing signs of decline. Authorities are maintaining close surveillance in vulnerable regions to ensure timely response and public safety.
Water levels at Aakhua Pada remain under close watch as they are near the alert level, while the situation in Mathani area of Balasore district is also being monitored due to rising river levels.
Parts of Dhenkanal and Athagarh have reported impacts from the overflowing waters of the Sapuá River. Local administrations are engaged in assessing ground conditions and extending necessary support to affected communities.
Officials said monitoring teams are tracking rainfall patterns, river conditions and possible risks across the state. Residents in vulnerable locations have been advised to remain cautious and follow safety guidelines issued by authorities.
The state administration continues to coordinate relief and preparedness measures to address any emerging situation caused by heavy rainfall.
