Sambalpur Comes Alive with Grand ‘Shiva Vivaha’ Celebrations During Sital Sasthi Festival

Sambalpur, June 19 (UDN): The temple city of Sambalpur is witnessing vibrant celebrations as thousands of devotees gathered to take part in the sacred Shiva Vivaha rituals during the annual Sital Sasthi festival, one of Odisha’s most cherished cultural and spiritual traditions.

The festival marks the divine wedding of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, celebrated with deep devotion, elaborate rituals, and grand public participation. This year too, the city has transformed into a spiritual hub, with streets, temples, and ceremonial venues decorated to reflect the festive spirit.

On Thursday night, Lord Mahadev was taken out in a ceremonial procession from various Shiva temples across Sambalpur in the traditional groom’s attire. The procession was accompanied by devotional music, fireworks, illuminated decorations, and enthusiastic participation from thousands of devotees who gathered along the routes to witness the divine journey.

Upon reaching the bride’s residence, Lord Shiva was received with traditional customs and rituals, marking the continuation of the age-old wedding traditions. At the auspicious moment, the divine wedding ceremony was conducted at the altar amid chanting of Vedic mantras by priests, as devotees watched the sacred rituals with reverence.

The Shiva Vivaha rituals are being observed across different localities of the city, with some areas completing the ceremonies while others continue the ongoing celebrations. The entire festival atmosphere reflects a blend of devotion, tradition, and community participation.

A large number of devotees from Sambalpur and nearby regions have gathered to witness the historic event, which holds deep cultural significance in Odisha’s heritage calendar. The festival not only represents religious devotion but also showcases the region’s rich traditions of music, art, and collective celebration.

Later in the night, the ceremonial joint procession (Nagar Parikrama) of the divine couple is scheduled to take place, allowing devotees across the city to seek blessings.

The Sital Sasthi festival continues to stand as a symbol of unity, devotion, and cultural pride, drawing visitors and pilgrims from across the state and beyond, making Sambalpur a vibrant center of spiritual celebration.
