Sanjay Murthi Appointed as the New Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India

19th November 2024: In a recent development, Sanjay Murthi, a 1989 batch IAS officer from the Andhra Pradesh cadre, has been appointed as the next Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India by President Droupadi Murmu. He will succeed Girish Chandra Murmu, who has held the position since August 2020. Sanjay Murthi is currently serving as the Secretary of the Higher Education Department in the Ministry of Education.

Before being appointed as CAG, Murthi had an extensive administrative career, including serving as the first Lieutenant Governor of the newly formed Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. His experience in governance, administration, and auditing will be crucial in ensuring transparency in public finances and promoting fiscal discipline in India.
