Bhubaneswar, June 4: Industry veteran Shailesh C. Mehta has been elected as the new Chairman of the Fertilizer Association of India (FAI). With over four decades of experience in the fertilizer sector, Mehta previously served as Chairman of FAI’s Western Region for five years.
He currently holds the position of Chairman and Managing Director at Deepak Fertilisers and Petrochemicals Corporation Ltd., as well as Mahadhan Agritech Ltd.
Speaking on his new role, Mehta highlighted India’s remarkable transformation from a food-deficient country to a significant global agricultural exporter. He emphasized the fertilizer industry’s critical role in this journey, especially in promoting balanced and nutrient-rich fertilizers that support long-term sustainability.
Mehta expressed his commitment to strengthening the link between government, industry, and farmers, aiming to further elevate Indian agriculture and farmer productivity on the global stage. Over the past two decades, fertilizers have played a key role in boosting India’s crop output by 60% and horticultural production by 40%, he noted.
