State Bank of India to Revise ATM Transaction Rules from October 1; Salary Account Holders May Get Fewer Free Withdrawals

Bhubaneswar,  Sept 16 [UDN}:  The State Bank of India (SBI), the country’s largest public-sector bank, is set to revise its ATM transaction rules for salary account holders from October 1, 2026. Under the revised guidelines, SBI salary account holders will see a reduction in the number of free monthly ATM transactions available at other banks’ ATMs.

At present, salary account holders are eligible for 10 free ATM transactions per month at other bank ATMs, covering both financial and non-financial transactions. However, from October 1, this limit will reportedly be reduced to five transactions per month.

The revised limit will cover both cash withdrawals and non-financial ATM services, meaning that transactions such as balance enquiries and other eligible non-financial activities may also count towards the monthly free transaction limit.

Once the free transaction limit is exhausted, customers will have to pay applicable charges for additional transactions. According to the information provided, an additional ₹23 plus GST may be charged for each financial transaction, including cash withdrawals, beyond the permitted free limit. For non-financial transactions beyond the free limit, a charge of ₹11 plus GST may apply.

Under the existing arrangement, SBI salary account holders receive 10 free ATM transactions every month, with financial and non-financial transactions counted within the overall limit. The first five transactions are available free across ATMs, while the remaining free transactions are subject to the applicable ATM network and location-related rules.

The revised policy is expected to affect SBI customers who frequently use ATMs operated by other banks. Customers who generally make only a few ATM transactions each month may not face any additional cost, provided they remain within the revised free transaction limit.

SBI account holders are therefore advised to keep track of their monthly ATM usage from October 1 to avoid unexpected service charges. The bank’s revised rules are particularly relevant for salary account holders who depend regularly on other banks’ ATMs for cash withdrawals and other services.
