Umerkote, Sept 11 [UDN}:A sixth Block-level Football Tournament has been organised at Chhadaiguda under Umerkote Block under the joint auspices of the Gandhi Yuva Parishad and the A.N.M. Football Coaching Centre.
The tournament witnessed the participation of several distinguished guests. Vice-President of the District Sports Association, M. Bala Krishna Rao, attended as the chief guest. Manoj Kumar Pattnaik, Joint Secretary, attended as a distinguished guest, while Cricket Secretary Ashok Nayak, senior member Shashank Shekhar Behera, Durjya Harijan, social worker Gopal Pattnaik and senior former sportsperson Dasharath Gond were among the other guests. They encouraged and motivated the participating players.
On this occasion, Kajol, President of the District Transgender Association, and Chumuki, its Secretary, along with other office-bearers of the association, attended the programme as guests and distributed prizes to the players.
It is noteworthy that at a time when young people are increasingly moving away from outdoor sports in the present mobile-phone era, the participation of 30 teams in this football tournament has created a record. Members of the District Sports Association expressed the view that such enthusiastic participation would be highly encouraging and beneficial for the future development of sports in the district.
For the smooth conduct of the matches, Saju Nag, Praveen Haldar, Madhu Bagh, Jagase Bhatra and Subash Santa have been assigned responsibilities as referees, according to the tournament management committee.
The tournament is being managed by Gandhi Yuva Parishad President Hemant Suna, Secretary Debraj Hial, Vice-President Saroj Deep, Treasurer Pinku Raju, along with Dhiru, Manoj and Chimpu. Social worker Ravi Suna is extending his cooperation to the organisers. The programme held today was coordinated by Nahasan Khara.
