Nabarangpur:Aug 18 [UDN}: World Tribal Day was celebrated across Nabarangpur district today with a focus on protecting the rights, dignity, distinct identity and rich cultural heritage of tribal communities. The grand event, organised by the District Tribal Protection Forum, witnessed the participation of a large number of tribal people from different parts of the district.
The entire atmosphere was filled with the vibrant colours of tribal culture as participants appeared in traditional attire and performed folk dances accompanied by drums, madal and other traditional musical instruments. The massive gathering showcased the rich traditions, customs and folk art of Nabarangpur’s tribal communities.
State Minister for Scheduled Tribe Development, Backward Class Welfare, and School and Mass Education, Nityananda Gond, attended the programme as the chief guest. Nabarangpur MLA and Chairman of the District Planning Committee Gourishankar Majhi, Jharigam MLA Narsingh Bhatra, MLA Manohar Randhari, and Special Development Council Chairperson Basanti Majhi were among those present.
Tribal communities from various blocks and regions of the district participated in the celebration wearing their traditional costumes. Through traditional dances, musical performances and cultural presentations, the event offered a glimpse into the rich folk traditions and cultural heritage of the tribal society of Nabarangpur.
Emphasis on Protection of Tribal Rights and Dignity
The programme placed strong emphasis on safeguarding the rights, dignity and identity of tribal communities. Discussions were held on several important issues, including tribal rights, social justice, education, healthcare, employment and livelihoods, as well as the protection of water, forests and land.
Speakers stressed the importance of protecting the traditional rights of tribal communities while preserving their languages, culture, customs, art forms and distinct identity. They also highlighted the need to strengthen education and awareness as key tools for the overall development and empowerment of tribal society.
The celebration served not only as a platform to showcase the vibrant cultural heritage of Nabarangpur’s tribal communities but also as an occasion to reaffirm the importance of protecting their rights, traditions, identity and natural resources.
