Jeypore, Sept 7 [UDN}: A one-day district-level training programme on the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961, was organised at the Sadbhavana Auditorium in Koraput by the District Social Welfare Officer.
The main objective of the programme was to create awareness about the elimination of the dowry system, the legal provisions related to it, and the protection of women’s rights.
The programme was attended by the Deputy Collector, DSP Pushpanjali Ningi, the District Social Welfare Officer, government officials and staff, community leaders, NGO representatives, Anganwadi workers, adolescent girls, young men and women, and students.
During the training, participants were made aware of various provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961, the harmful effects of the dowry system, and the role of different stakeholders in preventing the practice.
Community members, educational institutions, NGOs and grassroots-level workers were urged to create public awareness against the dowry system and cooperate in the proper implementation of the law.
Special emphasis was placed on the active participation of adolescent girls, youth and students. The younger generation was encouraged to play a leading role in building a dowry-free society.
At the conclusion of the programme, participants were called upon to continue their collective efforts to prevent the dowry system and ensure the dignity, honour and safety of women.
