Nuapada, July 2 (UDN): In a major anti-poaching operation, forest officials arrested two interstate wildlife traffickers near the Sunabeda Wildlife Sanctuary in Odisha’s Nuapada district and seized a Royal Bengal Tiger skin from their possession.
The accused, both reportedly residents of Maharashtra’s Chandrapur district, were apprehended near the Odisha–Chhattisgarh border following specific intelligence inputs regarding illegal wildlife trafficking activities.
According to forest officials, the operation was carried out by the Anti-Poaching Team of the adjoining tiger reserve area, which acted on a tip-off and conducted a raid near the border region. The seized tiger skin is suspected to have been sourced from the forested belt of central India.
Preliminary interrogation suggests that the accused may have been involved in poaching activities in forest regions known for wildlife movement. Officials have launched further investigation to determine the full extent of the network involved.
The arrest highlights ongoing concerns over wildlife crime in the border forest regions and the continued efforts of forest departments to curb poaching activities.
